Testimonials

As much as I lean on reviews and testimonials to make decisions, I’m not one to write them. However, in this case, I felt it would be a disservice not to share my experience. We decided to build a pool in late spring and began getting bids from several local pool companies. I work in construction and design, and did not feel great about the companies that had come out to discuss the project with me. Some were slow to respond, some lacked creativity, and most concerning was the amount of outsourcing these companies did. It made me question their quality control and ownership if each stage of the project was subbed out. In addition, we wanted our backyard landscaping to be completed along with the pool, and the best the other companies could offer was a referral to a landscaping company. I felt that I would have a better end result if one company owned the whole project from start to finish (yard, landscaping, pool). A friend of mine suggested I contact Medina Construction Engineering as he had a pool built by them a few years back. Admittedly, I was skeptical about getting a pool built by a general construction company, but my friend’s pool looked fantastic, so I figured it was worth the call. After the first meeting with Ramiro I felt confident that he would be able to deliver a quality product and that my needs would be met. There was zero hesitation to any of my requests and his team was so well-rounded that it didn’t matter how big or small the scope of my project was, he was willing to tackle any of it. From the first visit to the finished product, Ramiro was very attentive to my FREQUENT requests, questions, and back seat project managing. He sat down and designed our pool in real time during the first visit, something none of the other companies offered. We were able to walk the yard and make changes in the moment. This was incredibly helpful in working through the perfect design and getting a feel for the placement of the pool and possible yard configurations. Naturally, the more I sat on the design, the more tweaks I wanted to make, and Ramiro was accommodating every step of the way. He never pushed expensive options and always gave multiple solutions to give me a range of options for any budget. In terms of construction, I was given an 11 week estimate and the project was completed in about 8 weeks. Construction started exactly as stated and I was given an outline of what would be happening during each phase. The whole project was completed by the MCE team with the exception of gunite (which everyone subs). I work from home so made frequent trips to the backyard to check on progress (I know, obnoxious) but the crew was always extremely pleasant to interact with and answer my questions about what they were working on. Angel, Israel, Aaron, Robert, and project manager Tony were some of the key people that worked on my project, and all were a pleasure to work with. Unpredictable issues popped up throughout the project, and the team was able to handle these with ease and without any exorbitant change orders. I was never locked into decisions and Ramiro was quick to react to any changes I requested – from a very specific stamped concrete design to natural stone coping, and a lengthy unplanned retaining wall, changes were handled with ease. The team worked efficiently and would work on the yard when progress couldn’t be made on the pool, and at times simultaneously. One thing Ramiro said to me early on was that they weren’t perfect, but that they would work hard to correct issues and would produce a quality product. He was right, but most companies struggle to own their mistakes. There were minor issues during the project that Ramiro would notice when inspecting the work and would not try to hide them. In fact, he’d share with me where something was installed/constructed incorrectly and would promptly have someone there to correct it. To expect perfection during any construction project is unrealistic, so this approach to identifying mistakes and resolving them was refreshing. After about 8 weeks the pool was complete, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. The family loved jumping into the new pool and thanks to the heat pump Ramiro suggested; we were able to enjoy it deep into the fall. Our back yard is entirely new, and we absolutely love it. We don’t have a huge lot, but due to Ramiro’s creativity we were able to maintain a yard to play in along with a good-sized pool. My final note is that Ramiro’s responsiveness did not change after the final check was written. I’ve had many questions since then and he has promptly responded, no different than when we were under contract (including a Saturday chlorine delivery)! Since my project, I’ve referred Medina Construction Engineering for other work to friends, and they have all been extremely happy with the work performed. While I have no intention of building another pool, if the day comes, I know who I’ll call. Thank you!
